Charles J. Wilkes concentrates his practice on commercial real estate and commercial finance. A partner in the firm, Charlie leads the firm’s Banking and Commercial Finance and Real Estate Finance practice groups.

Charlie regularly acts as counsel to national, regional and community banks, private lenders and debt funds in mortgage finance, commercial credit and asset based finance matters, with extensive experience in complex mortgage loans, middle market lending transactions and syndicated credit facilities. He also acts as local New Jersey and New York counsel on major national and international credit transactions. Additionally, Charlie regularly works on a variety of complicated real estate transactions, including the acquisition, disposition and leasing of significant commercial real estate assets. He has significant experience in negotiating and drafting purchase and sale agreements, redevelopment agreements and office and industrial leases.

Prior to joining MSW, Charlie was a Partner at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, one of New Jersey’s largest and most well-respected law firms in the real estate area. Charlie joined Greenbaum as an associate and quickly became a go-to advisor for commercial lenders, landlords, developers and corporate clients alike. Prior to joining Greenbaum, Charlie was an associate in the New York office of Clifford Chance LLP, a leading London-based international law firm, where he practiced as an associate in the banking, capital markets and corporate groups.

Charlie received his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif. Charlie received his bachelor’s degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Charlie lives in Ramsey, New Jersey with his wife Alexandra, his daughter Abigail and his son George.
