Murphy Schiller & Wilkes Incentive Advisory Team Secures Approvals Under the NJEDA’s Film Tax Credit Program

On Tuesday, February 12th, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (the “NJEDA”) approved a $6,060,631 award under the Film & Digital Media Tax Credit Program (the “Program”) for a New York-based production company seeking to relocate to New Jersey.

The Program allows for a tax credit equal to 30 percent of qualified film production expenses, or 35 percent of qualified film production expenses incurred for services performed and tangible personal property purchased through vendors whose primary place of business is located in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer or Salem County.

To be eligible, an applicant must either spend 60 percent of the total film production expenses (exclusive of post-production costs) on services and goods purchased through vendors authorized to do business in New Jersey, or incur over $1 million (per production) on qualified film production expenses (expenses incurred in New Jersey for the production of a film).

Chris J. Murphy, Esq. led the firm’s successful effort on behalf of the applicant.

ABOUT THE MSW ECONOMIC INCENTIVE ADVISORY PRACITCE GROUP

Economic development incentives play a key role in helping businesses make informed, strategic decisions whether to expand or relocate in today’s complex business and regulatory environment. Understanding this fact, MSW takes a comprehensive approach to ensure that our clients are able to take advantage of the vast array of incentives available through federal, state, and local government agencies.

Having dealt extensively with incentive programs while serving in government, our team understands the important intricacies of incentive procurement. Whether our clients are seeking tax credits, cash grants, low interest loans, or any other form of non-dilutive financing, we work with our clients to develop all-inclusive strategies and advise them through every stage of the incentive process, including site selection and workforce analysis, incentive procurement, compliance, and the negotiation of the sale of unused tax credits.

With each state and locality offering unique programs to companies of all sizes, our team’s extensive experience in economic incentive advisory allows us to properly target and secure the public incentives available to meet the specific needs of our clients. Whether a company needs a comprehensive multi-state analysis, or a single workforce training grant through a local government agency, MSW takes the same focused approach to ensure our clients are properly positioned to achieve their objectives.
