Matthew J. Schiller

Matthew J. Schiller is a founding partner of Murphy Schiller & Wilkes LLP (MSW) and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. As Chair of the Real Estate Transactional practice group, Matt oversees the firm’s Leasing, Acquisitions, Sales, Distressed Assets, and Opportunity Zone service areas.

Matt represents institutional owners, developers, and investors in high-stakes acquisitions, dispositions, and financing matters across the tri-state area and nationally. His expertise extends to the distressed asset space, where he advises borrowers, lenders, and special servicers on loan workouts, modifications, and foreclosure litigation.

Matt’s expertise is consistently recognized by the industry’s most respected ranking organizations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), the premier invitation-only organization for real estate attorneys in the U.S. He has literally “written the book” on New Jersey real estate, co-authoring the Leasing Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Transactions in New Jersey and is the author of the Lexis Nexis treatise New Jersey Real Estate Forms. Matt’s leadership in the bar includes serving as Chair of the Real Estate Property Trust and Estate Law Section of the NJSBA (2022-2023), where he has served on the section’s Board of Consultors since 2012. Matt is also ranked by Chambers and Partners, recognized in The Best Lawyers in America©️, and regularly designated as a New Jersey Super Lawyer. Additionally, he has been repeatedly named to the ROI-NJ Real Estate Influencers list and was previously honored as a “New Leader of the Bar” by the New Jersey Law Journal.

Before founding MSW, Matt served as Vice-Chair of the Real Estate Department at Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis LLP and practiced at the international firm K&L Gates LLP. He earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and his B.A., with honors, from Trinity College, where he captained the varsity swimming team.

Matt lives in Manalapan, New Jersey, with his wife, Laura, their three children, Brody, Chloe, and Sydney, and their dog, Yogi.
